The Pilands in Bloom Community Committee headed by Cllr Tony Dew are celebrating today as they have won a top award in the Royal Horticultural Society "It's your Neighbourhood" competition.

Since the inception of the Pilands in Bloom 6 years ago it has grown into a major project supported by the People of Pilands Wood. Running alongside the RHS Competition, a local best Gardens, pots and hanging basket competition sees many Residents feverishly compete to make their own patch a smaller version of a garden at Chelsea!

Eastleigh Borough Council Direct Services led by Paul Naylor and
Bursledon Parish Council have been with the project from the beginning. They have inspired and supported everyone.

With their help the Community have taken an interest in
keeping the area clean and tidy thus helping towards the success.
It has taken some years for the project to Grow but Tony and his team have never given up, although all the digging, planting and watering have sometimes seemed never ending.

The Royal Horticultural Society have awarded the Project the Top
accolade of Level 5 "Outstanding" in recognition of all their hard
work and Community involvement which is such a outstanding achievement.

The Pilands in Bloom Event this Summer was very well supported by all the local agencies and the local Residents all came to celebrate the prize winners collecting their rewards.

The project has changed the ambience of the area. It is now a tidy and blooming landscape, with colourful flowers around every corner which brings joy to all of the people of Pilands Wood.

Looking forward to next year, we will be involving more of the young people in the area. There will be fun events and and a competition to excite young minds to start growing for their future.

If anyone would like to get involved they can contact Tony Dew or Jane
